Broadband saving you money
ByThere seems to be quite a few people that are still listening to the horrible sounds of a dial-up modem every time they go on the Internet. There are more people who do not even have a computer. If you happen to be one of these people, I will explain to you why you should start heading in the opposite direction.
First, if you don?t have an Internet Connection, you?re probably not reading this on a computer. So, go out and get one. It doesn’t have to be a fancy $2,000 unit, as there are many places you can buy a $200-$300 PC that will work just fine for a couple of years. After that, get a DSL or Cable connection for an additional $15 – $45 a month (depending on your speed/location). If you have a PC but are using dial-up, you need to ?drop the line? already (no pun intended).
Using a broadband connection will save you hundreds of dollars. If you currently have a dial-up connection, you’re being charged per minute. Compared to broadband, dial-up is slow (like crawling and running) you’re wasting money waiting for pages to load.
Secondly, the more you use the Internet, the more money you will save making purchases. You may be surprised to see that goods are much cheaper on the Internet compared to department or boutique stores, even when you account for shipping. You don?t pay sales taxes when purchased out of state and since the retailer is not wasting money on a storefront and employees, their overhead is much lower (that translates to lower prices for the consumer).
Why waste money talking on the phone or sending letters when email is basically free? It?s faster and more convenient (albeit less personal).
Online banking can save you money since many banks offer incentives and charge lower fees when using an online account. Just like in retail, the banks can spend less overhead on tellers and physical offices and share some of that profit with you.
Sites like Craigslist and Ebay, allow you to sell things that you think are junk but you know the saying a man’s junk is another man’s treasure.
Vonage and Skype are popular voice over IP companies with lower rates than telephone companies. With these Technologies, the internet is used so that your voice could be transported across the world for a smaller fee than the traditional phone call.
Stop paying for the newspaper to be delivered to your house. You can read hundreds of thousands of current articles online from around the world for free.
Of coarse you could do all this with the dial-up connection you have, but why would you want to continually deal with the painfully slow connection, when for as little as $10 a month, you can easily make the upgrade to a high speed broadband connection? You’ll easily earn back this money, and save quite a few dollars with the tips you’ve been given.
